Heritage Update
Posted: 30th July 2011
Many of you will recall making submissions to the City of Cockburn in
regards to their review of the Heritage Inventory and proposals put
forward by City of Cockburn Officers.
This item was on the Agenda for the City of Cockburn Ordinary Council Meeting held on July 14.
The following is an excerpt from the minutes re this item:
ADOPTION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT INVENTORY AND HERITAGE LIST; SCHEME
AMENDMENT NO. 86 (MODIFICATION TO HERITAGE
PROVISIONS); AND ADOPTION OF DRAFT LOCAL PLANNING
POLICY (HERITAGE CONSERVATION DESIGN GUIDELINES) -
APPLICANT: CITY OF COCKBURN - OWNER: VARIOUS (PS/L/002 AND 93086) (C CATHERWOOD) (ATTACH)
RECOMMENDATION
That Council
(1) adopt the Local Government Inventory (“LGI”) for final approval,
subject to a number of modifications - With the first being,
1.
'Place No. 67 (Naval Base Caravan Park) being identified as a ‘Proposed
Heritage Area’, and modifications to the place record as shown in
Attachment 8.'
The Council Decision was,
MOVED Mayor L Howlett SECONDED Deputy Mayor K Allen that
Council:
(1) adopt the Local Government inventory (“LGI”) for final approval subject to the following modifications:
1. Retain the current status of Place No. 67 (Naval Base Caravan Park) i.e. Category B on the LGI and commence
the necessary research and other related matters (including producing a draft planning policy) in order that a report be
presented
to a future meeting of Council on the potential or otherwise to create a
‘Heritage Area’ covering the current Naval Base Caravan Park.
Reason for Decision
In
respect to the Naval Base Caravan Park, it is important that the
necessary research and draft planning policy be produced to enable
Council to make an informed decision on any proposed change to the
status of the Naval Base Caravan Park i.e. ‘Heritage Area’. The removal
of the Naval Base Caravan Park from Category B of the LGI is considered
premature at this point in time.
The identification of the Naval
Base Caravan park as a proposed Heritage Area is a step in the right
direction, and the Committee would like to sincerely thank everyone who
took the time to make a submission. We will keep you updated re any
further developments. Please continue to attend All Council Meetings
possible.
